Five Joyful Music Students participated in the MMTA's Russian Music Festival on Saturday, November 19, 2016. Requirements were to play a piece written by a Russian composer or written in the style of Russian music. Congratulations to the following participants:
Jake Miller, Honorable Mention
Joshua Vincent, Winner
These students prepared solos by Russian composers and performed them at Lakeland University in front of a judge. Each student received a certificate and a comment sheet from the judge with feedback about their performances.
They played music by Russian composers Dmitri Shostakovich, Pytor Tchaikovsky, Igor Stravinsky, and Dmitri Kabalevsky.
Joshua Vincent was the winner of the 3rd grade division and played in the Honors Recital at the end of the day (pictured above). Jake Miller received honorable mention. I am extremely proud of everyone who participated!
Although this was a competition, MMTA teachers stress the learning experience part of it- I believe that everyone is a "winner" because of the hard work they put into learning new, challenging music, and for the experience of playing before a judge and receiving valuable feedback from an objective source.
